Unhappy Ok, this has me just a little concerned....

This evening, I'm detailing my engine compartment and notice that the painted area around my battery has turned black. I had the battery replace not too long ago cause it was leaking and fluid had gotton all over the place but I had the battary replaced and washed the area down with water to ake sure that all the fluid was removed.

Now, several months later, the area around is black! I checked to see that there wasn't any leaks from this one, pulling it out and cleaning the area with distilled water again and checking the surrounding hoses and wires.

Should I be worried besides the discoloration of my paint which most people won't see or notice, such as any acid remnant continuing to eat through the paint or whatever?

It will probably rust, This seems to be kinda normal from what I hear. Somebody may chime in and say different.
