wtf is this?!?! do i need it?! help! Do i need this black tray looking thing that extends from underneath my y pipe and I pipe? I put a band clamp on the y pipe and i pipe extension piece, and a pipe clamp on the i pipe to the extension, and it does not fit on there. Will this cause the pipes to move too much?
It won't fit, and when it does, it won't bolt on all the way. The black metal piece is all wavy. Let me know if I need this or not!

That is the gm version of a driveshaft safety bar. Get rid of it but put on a real driveshaft safety loop from one of the sponsors or summitt racing. Good insurance and i think it stiffens up the car a little bit too.
It's a so-called chassis brace.
Might replace it with a real driveshaft safety loop like
Lakewood. That seems to be the one that tucks up the
best, it does not bother my Y- or I-pipes at all (though
I'm stockish, there).
