I think it's the LM. My buddy has one on his TA and it backfires until it warms up. He has stock headers though.

I mean like backfires though like a starting gun for a swimming meet ... Not like a nice healthy muscle car popping

It's the loudmouth! I've had it pop really loud without having any aftermarket headers. The loudmouth resonator can really get your exhaust to pop really loud. That would be my guess

Mine would pop ,like a firecracker sound when punched with the stock manifolds too. With the longtubes its really loud whenever it does it but I think it sounds cool. I read somewhere it has to do with fuel that was not burnt and doesn't hurt it,

not to say that this would have anything to do with the backfiring you are experiencing, but what kind of spark plugs do you have and how long have you had them?

I have experience the high pitched bang with my exhaust and then I changed my spark plugs to the #12 ACDelco Rapidfire, then no more back firing. If you are using the OEM sparkplugs, then the might be worn to the point of not combusting the fuel properly.

You could always check for:
1) improper tuning
2) exhaust leaks (possibly at the heads)

I don't know what you should be expecting it to sound like with that exhaust...
