Default Those of you with a Hooker catback come in!

Ok so after relentless reading and research I did the whole duals thing. Well it didn't turn out so well . . . they were too loud and ground clearance wasn't that great. Im sure some of you guys can understand that when you have to drive your car everyday, and somethings bothering you, it drives you CRAZY!! Trust me the duals were . . . so I decided to go the catback route. Ordered up a hooker catback and ory. Installed them and now Im getting this ****, hiss, sound at part throttle. I have been back to the exhaust shop that welded everything up three times and there are no leaks at idle. Is what I'm hearing rasp? I've went from stock manifolds and a cutout, to jet hots and duals, back to this setup. So . . .I guess I'm not familier with what rasp really sounds like. Heres the kicker, it was making that same sound at part throttle with the duals, but I think it still sounds just like an exhaust leak. Its coming from the rear of the car, and I'm pretty sure the headers aren't leaking. Oh yeah and EVERYTHING has been welded . . . and I even changed the spark plugs and checked all the coil packs and wires. I'm losing it

You welded everything? That's not a good idea. What if you have to pull your tranny? PITA. A hiss usually means a leak somewhere. Did you put the gasket in between the muffler and the over the axle pipe at the flange. If not that will leak and hiss. I would not characterize rasp as a hiss. My hooker is perfect. No rasp. No hiss. Bolted on.

If I have to pull the tranny I will just have to cut out what I need to, I had the flange completely welded up. Still leaking somewhere . . .

Mine's all band-clamped and bolted at the flange with no leaks. Not sure what you've got going on

I would check the entire exhaust, not just the rear - sometimes noises have their own way of travelling around a car and disgusing their origin. Good Luck.

Mabey because your exhaust is quiter you can hear your throttle body, some aftermarket ones can hiss at certain throttle angles................or you can put someone in the car run it up on the hoist at the exh. shop run the car at different rpm's and check around, a mechanics stethascope is helpfull to find leakes.

Good ideas and help so far, could a leaky gasket produce a hissing kind of sound? I though header leaks usually ticked quite loud. I looked and I do not see any suit on the heads or around any of the bolts . . . I did however reuse my 90k stock gaskets on the swap. If its any consolation to you guys I can hear the sound very well accelerating under part throttle, and I can hear it clear as day when Im next to an embankment on the bridge coming home from work.

definetly could be throttle body, these LS1's suck in air like you wouldn't believe.

I have heard hissing sounds on TB's before and they seem to always be around. Its very evident when you first start the car. Mine is *only* evident when your crusing part throttle (giving it some gas but not enough to make it downshift) and right after a WOT blast.
