will splicing the crank pos sensor wire give a false reading An guy i know took his ss to some jack leg to rebuild the engine and when they pulled the engine they just cut a few of the wires instead of unpluging them 
not real sure of this logic but anyways if the wires are spliced back together it will change the resistance somewhat. does the crank postion sensor work off of voltage or resistance and will splicing this adversely affect it any

your crank sensor is basically a magnet that sends magnetic pulses in the form of electricity to the pcm to determine rpm. the other half is the reluctor wheel which has gaps but when cylinder 1 is at tdc the gap is larger and from that gap comes your rpm and firing order. doin a wire repair on where they where cut should not increase resistance if the wire repair is of good quality.
I had to replace my crank pos sensor harness about a year ago. The wires had gotten a lil hot next too the header.
No problems since splicing in the new pigtail.
