Default Is a cutout worth it?

Will I actually see a performance gain from installing a cut out or just the loudness? My exhaust setup is longtubes, cats still in place and functioning and a Magnaflow cat-back.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure cutouts are good for an additional 5-10 hp.

i was just thinking about asking the same thing. more specifically, is the QTEC Y pipe (with dual electronic cut outs) worth it. it's about twice as much as other Y pipes out there.

Yes, they are, even more in some cases.

Yes, either the QTEC Y pipe or even just the QTEC cut out in the normal I pipe location is a HUGE convenience and there are definitely gains to be had.

All the cut-out does is by-pass the muffler.
You will notice a difference.
I have the cut-out on mine, and like it alot!

header's and ory are on the way too

It's worth it just for the sound alone.

Yes a cut out is worth it, I went through 3 Q-techs before I gave up on them and just use the good old lay on your back to open it up method. If I could do it all over again I would just get the $20 manual open/close cut out.

I liked mine, went to a different exhaust and may not need one now...it only gets rid of about 35% of exhuast flow when placed typically in the rear of Y pipe prior to catback (per kooks)...I noticed a lot of exhaust coming through stock rear exhaust when open...lots louder and definately a difference on the bottle!

I gained 5 hp open vs closed with my cut-out that is located right in front of the muffler. You might gain a smidge more if your cut-out is in the I pipe, just be harder to get to. Mine cost me something like 15-20 bucks and about 3-4 hours of cutting, grinding and welding,,,,, five hp for 20 bucks.

well after my previous car with all bolt ons and cam and true duals I was very irritated with the sound always droning. I loved it when I wanted lots of noise, but most of the time cruising I wanted to hear my stereo loud and clear but couldn't becuae it was always loud. Now with my current car I will not put true duals on and I have installed a cutout, and its much better. I can turn of the volume at will, sometimes I like to hear it with the stereo jamming other times without the stereo and other times I just want zero noise, so with the stock exhaust i have the best of both worlds. I would never do anything else but the electric cutout its much more fun. I really don't notice any real difference with it open, just louder, but its still worth the money. Of course it does make a difference, but the 10 or so horsepower is hard to feel, but every little bit helps. Mine seems to run perfectly as well-no problems.

Cutout it's the best one of Borla catback and X-pip. Cutout will be better if you put it closer to the rear end. it's so easy to see 5-10 rwhp after the cutout and the right place.

I'm putting it on the i pipe just before the axle. How much would it be to have this installed by a shop?

been there, done that, and got rid of it. if you are doing it for the sound. great. as one guy said, he gained a tenth. i gained squat for the 1/4 mile. then i put the bassani tru-dual on and gained .3 and 3 mph. stock vs open was same day back to back.
This is with 200 n2o.
distance ---stock ----- cutout ------ Bassani
60ft ------ 1.987 ------ 2.074 ------ 1.969
1/8 ------- 7.902 ------ 7.912 ------ 7.739
mph ------ 93.20 ------ 93.97 ------ 98.60
1/4 ------ 12.102 ---- 12.080 ------ 11.814
mph ------ 117.12 ---- 118.06 ----- 121.35

i did gain 11/13 on the dyno. but that was AFTER 3200 rpms. dynoing didn't show what happened UNDER 3000rpms.

If your muffler sucks then you will gain some hp and cut your e/t, but if it is a good flowing muffler like the Hooker Aerochamber then it's not worth the trouble.

Well, I do kind of want it for the sound, and for $35 it couldn't hurt to throw a manual one in there and see how I like it before committing to a QTP. Next time I have the thing up in the air I'll look for a place to put it under there (I have a truck BTW).
