Default no thermostat?

what are the pros or cons of not running a thermostat?

Over heating or running too cold. If you don't run a stat you need to put a washer or something similar in there to keep the coolant from moving too fast throught your radiator. If the coolant goes through the radiator too fast you don't get the cooling. Moroso makes some washers for doing this. I think they come in a pack so you can try different hole sizes. Its really more of a racing thing. I would do it with a street car.IMO

thanx.the reason i asked was because my stat was starting to stick making my car overheat,so i took it off.i have been running without it for a couple of days now,and i didnt notice a difference.

Just play it safe and put a new t-stat in. I know they are a bit expensive for our cars but there's nothing we can do about that.

Stick a 160 in there. LS1's can be run hotter than the iron block LT1's and Gen I small blocks. Around 140 degrees is actually the prime temp for gen I motors to run for getting the most power, but 170ish is the prime for the LS1. Aluminum just discipates heat better than iron.

yea, just stick a 160 thermo in there and call it a day.

Coolant can't move too fast through the radiator to dissipate heat. The best explanation i've heard is you need the thermostat as a blockage to create pressure behind it so the coolant doesn't boil and form hot spots.

I know one CON with not running a tstat, NO HEATER IN THE WINTER!! You'll freeze your ***** off if you live in cold climates.
