Question Exhaust tips; any effect on performance?

I was just wondering if I'll loose any back pressure and hp if I'll replace dual 3" wide/10" long hooker exhaust tips with single 4.5" wide and 18" long tips? I have installed Flowtech LT headers, 3" Y-pipe, and Texas speed rumbler cat back system. The reason I want to do it is because I hate the look of short dual tips under camaro rear bumper, and with these 18" ones tips will go all the way back almost to 90 turn on the tail pipe. also If possible anyone can tell how much hp did I gained with my exhaust mods ? and if they were the good choices? ps. I'm new to this web site but I can already say that its GREAT and I love it !!!

HEY SSB welcome to the site. No, you wont lose any power. the ls1 does not require back pressure. thats come to be an urban legend with these engines. so switch your tips to your liking! enjoy the forum!

Good rule of thumb is the farther from your engine the less efect it has on power.

You sure the ls1 dosent require any backpressure? Thats a little extreme. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that running around with no headers or manifolds could cause some problems.

The LS1 does require a little backpressure, which is why many people who run "open headers" are often running a 12-18 inch pipe behind them.

yeah I should revise. the engine does have a minimum BP requirement, but as long as the cutout is mounted on the I it wont affect that requirement.
