You get what you pay for bro. $170 is not bad- better than stock, but.....
Try the new Loudmouth 2 for $350. Stainless and people have been saying some good things about it. Not as raspy and loud as the original. I have the Flowmaster 40 series on my daily driver '94, sounds good, but.... who cares?

i turned my cutout today. i had an exhaust shop do it for $20. it's about 1.5 inches higher than normal. in fact, it's still the lowest point on my car - MAYBE!! and if it is, it's only the lowest by about a quarter of an inch. i'm much, much happier now.

the only concern i have is that the cutout and i-pipe are both about .5 inches away from the underside of my car. i'm afraid that either one of them is going to flex and dent the floorboard or that the hot exhaust might slowly do damage to the metal underneath? thoughts?

Many of us have exhaust pipes/ LT collectors/ merges/ junctions really close to the floorboard and/or fuel lines (in the case of duals). I wouldn't sweat it. Sleep well.

Yea, my exhaust is close to my floorboards. I made sure I had only an index finger of clearance between them, so that ground clearance was not a problem. No banging at all I also have poly motor mounts, so my exhaust is pretty still.

Mine is not that close to the fuel lines though, they are flipped.

That is funny considering I had this cat back and swapped it to a magnaflow because everyone said I would pick up power. The magna flow only made the car quiet. No gain in performance at all.

The issue with the flowmaster is that one person tested it against another catback and posted it on here. The results spread like a the plague.

mine is not that far away i don't believe. it's just that the welder used a 3" to fit around the stock 2.75" pipe in order to weld it back together, so it runs very close to the floorboard at one point. i'm guessing this is probably no different at all than having a 3" catback. who knows? but i don't hear it clunk at all, so i'm assuming it's not a problem.

in fact, now that i look at it, the i-pipe is pretty much resting against the floorboard in the rear. and if it isn't, the space is very narrow between the pipe and the floorboard. in addition, the the screw on the cutout is about a quarter of an inch away from the floorboard. you think i'm going to see any problems with this?

If it doesn't bang then you shouldn't have any problems.

okay. i'm not sure how it's touching the metal underneath, considering it's still stock. the welder must not have welded it back in the form of the stock location. i don't really know.

how many inches does the i-pipe flex under the most extreme conditions? .2 inches or something?

Dude, if you would have a look under my car you'd have a seizure. If it ain't bangin' don't fret.

haha. well, i won't worry with it then. i haven't heard it bang, so i am not going to fret. it might be making small contacts with minimal sound at most, but i've driven over some pretty bumpy road and normally only heard the usual noises these crazy f-bodies make

I bought the flowmaster american thunder catback about 2 years ago and it was the worst mistake that I ever made. It popped like everything going down the road and it didn't really sound that good unless I went wot. Thats about the only time I heard the catback. I have since changed my setup to headers/true duals and couldn't be happier. Save your money and get a quality exhaust the first time.
