? sound, raspiness, flow, all that stuff...

i can get one for about $170, and i'm wondering if it's worth that money. i've heard bad things about the 80 series muffler, but all i'm running now is completely stock exhaust and a cutout. what do you guys think?

Save your money for headers. Cutout sounds the best I think. And I also think american thunder is a 80 series . Anyone ?

I had it, and chopped it to bits. From now on I am buying Dynomax mufflers and getting custom work done.

i don't like the cutout because it scrapes on everything, which really has been bothering me lately. i'd like either a temporary or a complete solution.

don't get me wrong, the cutout sounds fabulous, but the heighth of it has been bugging me for a year, and i'm finally decisive about doing something about it.

i'm thinking either the flows or the hooker. i can get the flows for $170, and the hooker is more expensive since i'd have to buy it new. i've also thought about the loudmouth, but from what i hear, it doesn't sound all that good and can be very raspy. hell, i just don't know what to do. there is a lot of exhaust systems out there and a lot of them do not sound very good IMO, and just about all the others i've never heard.

Is your cutout angled down? I had mine angled towards the outside of the car and I havent heard it scrape on anything.

yeah, it's a little angled down. you are talking completely level with the ground, huh? i don't want to angle to far to the outside of the car, because then it would only be angled right into the underside of the backseat, wouldn't it? would that be bad?

The cat-back system DOES use a Flowmaster 80 series (ie a crossflow muffler). It's not bad and sounds good. I have one on my 02 Z8. It's 3" throughout and has stainless tips with all mandrel bends. I had a Magnaflow before this.......and according to the timeclock at the dragstrip both systems performed the same. I also live in Hawaii...so good luck finding a more stable climate than this for racing comparisons!

Anyhow, many bash the Flowmaster as a redneck or "cheap" system. Bottom line....I like it. Looks good, cheap, and sounds good too. The sound is WAY louder than stock or the Magnaflow, but quieter than the Loudmouth. A bit of drone at certain highway RPM's (1600-1700RPM), but no rasp.

Honestly with my long tubes I don't notice much of a difference with the cut out open or closed on my flowmaster. If all you have is 170 then by all means go for it, they sound great, but rust and flow worth crap apparently.

btw, my cutout is also horizontal so it never scraped either, and my ypipe hangs really low too.

Get it. I've had mine since '99 and I'll probably never get rid of it. It sounds awesome, but can be a little raspy with an ory. It's all a matter of personal preference. Sounds like you angled your cutout down too much. Mine's pretty much straight out the side with a turndown. My ory scrapes before my cutout does.

I have it, too. I don't care what anyone says about the flow, the Flowmaster sounds badass and I still made good power with it. You might make more with another muffler, but if sound is high on your priority list, I recommend it.

i think i may try to get a muffler shop to cut my stock i-pipe and turn it so that the cutout doesn't face the ground so much. if that works out for me, there will be no need for a catback. this idea hadn't come to me yet! so you guys have your cutout on the same level plan as the ground, tucked up underneath where the passenger seat is? would anyone want to take a picture of this for me?

The flowmaster catback sounds pretty damn good, but everyone says it flows like crap. I would turn your cut-out so that it is not pointing towards the ground and get a flowmaster muffler installed for when you have the cutout capped

I liked the way my flowmaster was sounding with stock manifolds/y-pipe. My currect exhaust sounds way better though

i picked up 32rwhp when i ditched my flowmaster for a TSP Rumbler.
i liked the sound of the flowmaster, but i like the Rumbler's sound MUCH better!

but, I'd go for the Hooker over the Flowmaster hands down any day. The Hooker flows very well and sounds great.

Pretty much the only Hooker catback available. I think it does use the Aerochamber style muffler.
