Default Intermediate Pipe

How big is the intermediate pipe stock on a 2000 Trans Am (non-ws6)? I am getting a new muffler, but it doesn't have the I-Pipe and I want to see if it will work with the stock i-pipe (has 3" inlet on muffler) or if I need to get an adapter.

Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure the stock I-pipe is 2.75".

Most of the pipe is 2 3/4, but the inlet to the muffler on my Z28 is 2 1/2 stock. I have a hooker areo chamber replacement muffler. It has the 2 1/2 inlet. I think if you cut the stock I pipe farther back you could just get a 2 3/4 to 3" extension adapter and make it work. Its only the last part of the I pipe that is 2 1/2

Just take it to a muffler shop and have them weld it.
