Question HELP...Huge problem, not sure where to post this question

I just took my ride in to the dealership for an oil change and they told me my rack & pinion steering is leaking. Is that normal for a 2000? I only have 26,000 miles on my car and I store it winters could it be from sitting for 6 months a year?

Not a real big guru on suspension and steering stuff, but as far as I know its not supposed to be leaking. Have you ever heard of anything on a car leaking that is good. Some guys have come across bad ones that are brand new and just take a dump, on the other hand they run for ever and no problems. As far as leaking goes I have a 2000 and mine doesnt leak, and my power steering fuild seems to be good. Yours possibly may have taken a dump or your Stealership is trying to rob you, check it out for yourself then get some second opinions from a suspension shop or better known mechanic in your area. You migh have better luck posting this in the suspension section also. Good Luck

I have a 2000 Z28 and my rack was leaking as well, as a ft end mechanic I was shocked then pissed!I didn't want to change it yet so I let it leak down to about half way and then added some lucas pwr steering conditioner/sealer and it hasn't leaked since and that was 7 or 8 months ago, I really like the stuff. Eventually I will have to replace it but I would like to do it when I finally get my k-member. Try it it may just seal it up or may slow down the leak to a little seepage.

My rack is leaking slightly from somwhere, mostly sweating, not a drip. Now one of power steering hoses has started leaking, I think the high pressure side.

My car's a 99, and my seals started leaking around the 50K mark. I still haven't done anything about it yet because 1) I'm too lazy, and 2) I don't know how much to get it fixed, or how hard it would be to do myself.

The cap on my power steering resevior leaks but I've never heard of the rack and pinion leaking. Lucas makes a lot of fluids that are suppose to solve such problems as has already been said. I would start there and see if that fixes the problem.

I have a 2000 Z28 and the pressure hose started leaking at the end of last summer at about 29000. The rubber part of the line was all chewed up around the fitting that goes to the rack, I thought it was the rack at first.

One kind of stopleak type stuff that works is Moroso ceramic seal, I cant count how many blown headgaskets i have fixed on winter beaters with that stuff. I wouldnt use it in something i really liked but for a beater its a cheap fix and I have run it for 10000 miles or better.
