Default LS6 Intake Manifold: Good Enough For ~2 Tenths??

As some know, my goal is to get into the 12's while on street tires with the least amount of mods possible. Right now, all I have is a Whisper lid/filter, and LM catback as far as performance mods are concerned. My best so far is in my sig: 13.1 @ 108 with a shitty 2.1 60' (this being in hot, humid weather).

So, I'll be purchasing an LS6 intake manifold later this week (thanks BAM-BAM!), and will probably get it installed shortly thereafter.

My question is this: considering what I'm running now, would just the LS6 intake be enough to allow me to hit 12.9's. I highly doubt I'll be able to better my 60' any than my usual 2.1. All I'd need to cut would be .18 off my 13.176 and I'd be at 12.99x.

Anyone think it's enough to get me there? Any opinions are welcome and appreciated.

^^^He's M6, so he's already got stock 3:42's.

52804, your car is fast enough for 12's right now. Get that 60' down. Your mph indicates 12's too.

you can get your 60' down just by figuring out the best way to launch your car. find some good clean asphalt and find the right RPM and clutch tactic to minimize spinning and maximize your jump out of the hole.

Would you guys say I'm at a pretty decent spot right now though for a near-stock '98? I'm trying to get "the most with the least" outta this car, and I'm by no means whatsoever anywhere near being a "great" track driver: average at best.

^ Trust me, I know how much "practice makes perfect": I've only had my car not even a year and a half, but this time last year when I first started drag racing with it, in the relatively same heat and humidity, but BONE stock with my newbie dragging skills, my best for the longest time was a 14.0 @ like 103 m.p.h. I was excited to finally see 13.9's even though I knew these cars were mid-low 13-second cars stock.

So while I've definitely improved in the last year, there's honestly still a bit of room for improvement with my car as-is. If I could find a cool, low humidity night, get a decent launch, and not have my clutch slip through 1st gear after I feather between the clutch and throttle off the line then floor it(I dunno if my clutch is starting to go, or if it slips like that because it gets hot), AND power-shift (I just shift "regularly"), then I think all those together would help push me into the 12's with just what I have.

I have a 2000 Firebird, best I could do with a LID and a few free mods was a 12.96@109. It took forever for me to get into that 12 second pass. I have a crap load of 13.20-13.01 {actually have two 13.01 slips!}. After I finally ran that 12.96 I started modding. I addded 4.10 gears and a UD Pulley and pulled a 12.60@110mph.

I ran sub 2.0s on average with either the stock Firestone Firehawks or BFG drag radials. Best on the Firehawks was a 1.90 sixty foot.

I think that the intake should get you into the 12s considering that you are really there anyway. If you still don't get solidly into the 12s with the intake, my advice is to do the 4.10 gears.

You are close. With the ls6 intake you should hit 12s easy with a 2.1 60'. The ls6 intake helps on the other end of the track. Good luck

Well, unfortunately I won't be able to find out exactly how much just the LS6 helps me, because while I'm buying it on Friday, I won't be installing it until another month when I purchase the plugs and crossover pipe, but more importantly the Pacesetter LT's and ORY. I'm just gonna install everything at once to save time.

Hopefully though, with all that installed, I should be running 12.7-ish, and then a month later I'll be getting the ASP crank pulley and then taking it to a dyno tuner in Minneapolis who should (literally) be able to tune my car up to 360 rwhp and 355-370 rwtq.

After that, I'll get a rear end girdle to beef up my stock 10 bolt and then I'll use the BFG drags I have sittin' in the garage.

With all that, I should be seeing low 12's hopefully.

With the Pacesetters and LS6 intake you should most definitely hit 12s. Then with that UD pulley and tuning, you're looking maybe mid 12s.

You know what, like was said you have a 12 second car, but if your buying the ls6 intake, why dont you get your TB ported at the same time, you will def notice a nice gain in conjunction with the intake and i think bo white ports them for 75 bucks and people were saying how they made gains.

LS6 and ported TB really compliment one another. I noticed a really nice change when I did it to my car ... might run a tad rich, but, now enough to worry about tuning it in.

I really got nothing from an LS6 intake after I allready had the cam in.The kicker is,I ran a few 12.3X's and a 12.27 at 113 and had speed do a mailorder tune. The car never ran as good after it was done and I found out it was pig rich at WOT so the intake test was not real valid.Getting good at driving the car is the main thing.I was like the previous poster who had a hard time getting to 12.99 but after that I managed to knock it down to 12.5-12.6 before the cam with just learning the car and shiftpoints.Try no air filter/ported t-body and a short belt and you will have it.
