Default 160 Thermostat Q?

I am going to put a 160 thermostat in it, i was told i would have to put a fan switch in it to kick on at like 178 or so. Plz let me know. I really need to change this quick as possible.

Don't worry you can put it in without a switch or computer adjustment for the time being, it'll run like stock and just be open longer. Then schedule an appointment for around $50 someone with ls1edit or HPTuners to set the fans correctly. Or you can buy a fan switch and turn it on and off by yourself. However that wouldn't sit right with me a program is about the same amount as a switch.

If you are stock, why are you doing this mod? Do you have cooling issues? I'd put the money elsewhere to start.

I have a lid, headers y pipe and electric cut-out. and the temp stays at 210 all the time. It needs to be lower than that.

I have respect on the 160* mod. For just a little more money you can have a cooler running engine, and more importantly more consistant cool. If you are in a hurry a switch would help big time and should be fine.

Are you referring to the stock coolant gauge? If so, don't they all read 210*? It's my understanding that the stock coolant gauge is nothing more than an idiot light unless you've modified it (have heard you can do this, but haven't seen instructions on how).

I think he was just trying to say that the temp gauges are rumored not to be that accurate still no need for

You will run slightly cooler without a fan adjustment. And the thermostat will be open all the time after warm up. The stocker cycles because of the high temp. So the heads will run cooler with the 160. Fan adjustments will bring the temp down even further.

Yes... that's what I was tryin' to say. The coolant temp gauge in our cars are really nothing more than idiot lights. I can't speak for everyone else (although I suspect we're all the same), but once my WS6 gets up to temp, it reads about 205* (I was rounding off before). It reads that on 55* days, driving on the highway at speed. It's also read that on 90* days sitting in traffic. The gauge is practically useless for accurately reading temps in various conditions. The gauge in my Grand Prix GTP actually fluctuates between 180* and 210* depending on conditions. I don't know why Pontiac decided to put these crappy gauges in our cars.

Has anyone seen the directions for making our gauges functional?

My gauge isn't that bad I have efilive and checked it often while I was tunning it and after I put in my 160 stat I need to adjust the fan setting with ls1 edit in order to get the temp down the t-stat by itself only slightly lowered the temp after the fans were changed it got it down to 175*
