Default Help with Engine Temperature Please

Hi

As per my 1998 Z28 Camaro, A4, I have noticed it is running quite a bit hotter lately (as per factory gauge). It is getting from between 200 to 205 when ideling in traffic. Is this normal? It has the factory stat (195) and fan settings.

What temperature would be consdered as too high, 210, 220?

Thanks JA

That's normal. Don't worry about it.

my car has always run just a hair under the 210 mark from the day I bought it four+ years ago. The factory gauge is pretty worthless though. It sounds like it is normal. If you are worried about it, you can always flush the coolant system and get a new thermostat and install a fan switch

The factory gauge is a dummy gauge...it's pretty worthless...when compared to actual readings through a scantool, you would be surprised on the difference between the two.

he drives a 98, so his gauge is pretty accurate. It is still in within the normal range.

Hi
Thanks for the input. I have checked everything: drive belt, fan fuses, stat function, coolent level and all seems fine. The car just does not like to idle alot in hot weather. I think a low temp stat and Vinci hand held programmer are in order. They claim the programmer will be available anyday for the 98.

Thanks JA

Yep, sounds normal for a '98 gage in the warmer weather. They warm up quick when idling in warm weather, the stock fans don't cut on till 227 degrees.
