Default Removing Oil dipstick for Headers

I am removing my old exhaust and need to remove my oil dipstick to get to the bolts. I have 2 Q's

1, do I need to drain oil to remove the dipstick, or can I just take it out?

2, What Is the best method of removing it? (the dipstick goes in the top part of the pan right in front of the horizontal cylindrical thing right?

Remove the 15mm bolt holding the tube to the head inbetween number 4 and 6, then pull up firmly.

Make sure that the bottom O-ring is in good shape before you put it back in. Oh yeah, and don't set it on top of your beater after you pull it out, then forget and drive off with it on the trunk.

Mine took a good amount of wiggling to get it out. It takes a real hard tug.

you dont have to drain for it, or the part over the oil filter that you have to remove to get most headers in. A little oil will come out of that, but not enough to worry about.

Just loosen the one bolt on top and give it a firm tug. Getting it back in can be a bit of a pain. You just have to fish it around a little bit until it seats, and make sure the o-ring stays where you want it.

The above replies are correct. You may want to stuff something in the dipstick hole while it is out to prevent anything falling in the pan. I did, but I am very picky about my car . Oh ya, if the o-ring is torn or flat you may want to replace it.

I just did this tonight & it was a snap. No oil came out & to get it back in was pretty easy, do it from the bottom. Get under the car after putting it in the genral area, get the tip of it started in the hole. Get back up top & wiggle it a little, it should fall right in place, mine did. Getting the bolt started is also a little hard.

Well, sounds like all you guys had a MUCH easier time then I did. Took out the bolt and that thing would NOT come out. Ended up breaking it in two places. Now when I fill up my oil I have to compensate just slightly for the old piece still broke off in the bottm of the block. Bummer . ....

make sure you have a friend or anyone you can find to help you feed it back in when you go to reinstall it. Trust me, it will save you a lot of time.
