Question How often do you guys change the radiator fluid in your LS1 F-body?

How often should it be changed? And what brand do you recommend using?

Just curious since I bought my car brand new back in the summer of '02 and have never changed it...Car currently has 4,130 miles on it right now...

Thanks,

Mike

Well make sure you only use DEXCOOL (orange) coolant. Becareful too because MOPAR also has an orange coolant. Either way it's rated at 150,000 miles or 5 years, whichever comes first. In the real world I would change it every 50k or 2 years. DEXCOOL has a tendency to gel up when not maintained, it's worth cutting the interval down so much to keep the car pristine.

I changed mine at 50K (around 5 years old) and refilled with Dexcool. Looks like you should go by "years" instead of "mileage" with only 4100 on an 02.

Not necessarily true. It can still break down over a period of time even with low miles. I honestly don't trust Dex-Cool as a "extended life" coolant. I would change it annually or at a minimum every two years.

Wouldn't a place like Autozone just take it off you? I thought I remember hearing that they did...They always take my used motor oil...

Good question though since you don't ever want to get caught trying to dump that stuff down the sewer...

Make sure you don't use DEXCOOL on your 95...only 96+ GM cars and trucks got DEXCOOL the 95 and lower got the standard green coolant.

So is this just draining the radiator fluid and not draining the block also?

Just checked my radiator fluid and it looks green, is it okay to drain it then go to DEXCOOL??
