Default Pacesetter Y-pipe = POS

I just bought a set of coated pacesetters and their y-pipe. I did not buy the TSP y because the pacesetter looked like a smoother transition. On the outside the pacesetter y looks great, inside is a differant story the 3" pipes gets bottlenecked to about a 2" hole. BS!! I called pacesetter and they said "thats the way they are, they flow better than stock" I am going to have to grind all the weld off, open the hole up, and re-weld the y. I know this thing would RASP like hell if i don't. Starting to wonder why i didn't just run duals!!!!! Here are some pics!

i think thats pretty widely known...i got mine for $85 new so i didnt really care *shrug*

Hey like they said dude cant get something cheap and think its going to be top of the crop!! It flows better than stock, though!!

didnt we go over this circa 03 , the shitty pace Y was one of the reasons TSP came out with an alternative

and i covered this in the guide:

-Those looking to get Pacesetters; there Y is a toss up, some people's are "acceptable", others are straight ****. Pace didn’t put to much time or development into making a quality Y and it shows in the collector. Your best bet is to go with a custom Y or modify your Pace ORY like Larry did.

Those with Hooker/Jethot/Pacesetters can now rejoice, TSP has just come out with a 3” Catted Y pipe to fit your headers. They use high flow carsound cats. At 350 a pop you can rest assure that this is the Y-pipe you want to get. They also offer an ORY as well.

That does look like it was built in China. I'm not sure if I'm going ATI blower and need headers or going tturbo and would waste money buying headers now. If I DO get heades, I'm sure that the Pacesetter y pipe wont be on the order list. Good luck with it!
Can you return it and exchange it for the TSP?

The 'Hawk picture in your sig is identical to the one in my garage!!!

I would be pissed to i wouldnt take that for free, and id say its arguable if that actually flows better than stock. It obvious one side will flow smoother than the other. Thanks for posting pics im definitely going true duals now.

To tell you'll the truth my y-pipe dosen't look like that. My pacesetter y looks clean from the inside and all that welding you have in yours I couldnt see all that in mine. Guess I got lucky and placed my call at the right time for this y-pipe!! That y-pipe does look shitty though!!

Kinda makes me wish I looked more carefully at my Pace ORY.. seems to be working just fine ableit there is definatley rasp on decel.

well I have a hooker Y pipe on bottleneck and very minimal rasp only a little on decel. it was only like 160 too.

Just another option, i'm tired of people just bitching here so I figured I would suggest a positive alternative. only thing is the hooker pipe didn't want to fit over the driver header of the head pipe, nothing a hammer and a 2x4 couldn't fix.

Fixed the problem! I cut the pipe behind the y and torched out the hole, then smoothed it up with a dremel. Then welded the pipe back together.

Thats why I got the hooker Y pipe instead of that y pipe. Fits perfect even with SLP subframes and doesnt bang.

Has anyone ever done any testing to see how much power can be gained by going from a Pacesetter ORY to the TSP ORY? Is it worth it?

Hey guys, i actaully just recieved mine today, and looks like his, i am actually gunna do what he did, but i dont know where to cut the pipe at so i dont affect the flow.

Glad the install went smooth for 'ya. The illistration in your sig... I have that same picture on my dresser,but my foglights seem to be a shade duller than the bright white light shown. Does anyone happen to know what the BEST fog lights are for a TA? Thanks.
