Default Hooker catback is very low restriction!!!

I've had a Hooker catback for the last 4 years with a 24" Dynomax in the I pipe to control rasp because I have no cats. Anyway, I just installed a cutout behind the Dynomax. To my surprise, see sig, I only gained 4 RWHP, 405 to 409. I was hoping for a little over 10 RWHP, I guess this shows how well the Hooker flows.

Welcome to 4 years ago

I did a cutout vs. Hooker comparison back in 2000 when I got mine. Only lost ONE HP through the muffler on a stock motor, and 4 HP through the muffler on a heads/cam motor.

Hooker is pound for pound the absolute BEST catback on the market, and all for 260 bucks complete.

If it wasn't for the fact that it is too quiet for my tastes, I'd still have it. 'Twas a very nice fitting system...the guy that helped me put it on couldn't believe how well it fit for the price.

How is it pound for pound better than the magnaflow? I'd say the magnaflow is AT LEAST even to the hooker, as far as pound for pound goes. The magnaflow is only slightly more expensive and flows more cfm. They are both great catbacks though.

I think he just saying how happy he is whith the hooker cat back. No one should feel the need to defend other cat backs they strut on their car here.

There are lot's of good exhausts out there! But considering the cost of the Hooker, the quality, the price, the sound, the price, the flow, the price, it's an absolute great system ..

I put on a Hooker cat-back last week. It replaced an original set of pipes that had a LOT of holes in them. I had to keep welding it up as best I could until the new setup arrived. It was falling apart but it sounded great!

The Hooker cat-back sounded quite compared to what it replaced. It thought maybe too quiet. But after a week now I really like it.

Magnaflow is a great system, but a LOT heavier and more expensive. More CFM? I doubt it, probably pretty close either way but my money's on the hooker for 150 bucks less than the Magnaflow, lighter, and the ability to drop the entire rear section @ the track for added weight savings.

Personally, I could care less which muffler is BEST, like you say they are both pretty close. I read where the hooker flows 900 cfm vs. 1100 for the magnaflow. That is a small cfm difference, like the difference between stock and high flow cats. Yes the difference in cfm is small, but if you look at the inside of both mufflers you can see why the magnaflow flows better. The magnaflow is straight through and you could fit a skinny arm through it. The hooker is a chambered muffler. I only see the hooker weighing substantially less when it is unbolted vs. the magnaflow. Also, last time I checked(it could be different now) there was a $100 difference. Both are great, cheap mufflers, and anyone in the market should buy the one that makes them happy.

$100 is quite a bit of difference IMO. Your right, both are good exhausts, but the hooker sounds better to me, especially with LT's and ORY. I don't own either so I'm not partial, but I've heard both to make an opinion. Just adding to the thread, not trying to argue with you or hijack ...
