Shorty headers?
Shorty headers? What all brands are available, and do they have a y-pipe, or do they reuse the stock y-pipe?
A) JBA 1 5/8"
B) Hooker 1 5/8"
C) BBK 1 3/4"
Any others out there? Anyone have/run any of the above, and if so, how is the quality, fitment, etc? Did they bolt up to the stock y-pipe?

i went with the hooker shorties as you pictured.i have a 98 Ta and it made a significant seat of the pants improvement on my car. I heard the stock 98 exhaust manifolds were the most restrictive of any of the ls1 years, so shortys will prolly help more on these cars than 99 and new ls1's. mine hooked up to the factory exhaustjust fine and went in easily. now that i have done cam and heads , i am going long tubes... so ill have some newer powdercoated hooker shorties for sale if your interested...

Of course LTs are better for torque because of scavenging, but it has been documented that a quality shorty header will be very close to LTs on the top end. I have BBK shorties, they are the only ones that are 1 3/4 inch primaries, and they are great. Welds were a little sloppy, but I cleaned them up. They look fantastic and bolted right up stock y pipe. TROJAN T/A has done extensive write ups on these headers and they are not a waste of money, especially when trying to satisfy the smog *****. Good luck, PM me for more info.

I like the BBK, but you have to fix the collector for better flow, take a look the right ones ready. They go to a Random Y-pipe. This is the first shortys for me, I always use LT before, but get tired of the heat and problems with starters an so on.
