Default Trans fluid dipstick

My transmission fluid dipstick is stuck. It will not come out. The harder i pull the more it feels like something is gonna break. Any easy way to get it out.

Mine has a lock lever on it. Do you have a lever to flip?

Yeah. My friends silverado is the same way but his can come out. I flip the lever and mine doesnt move. Almost like it is suctioned in, it will come out a little and when i let it go it goes right back in, i've never got it farther than a quarter inch out of the tube. And i have never seen the actual dipstick, just the red top.

Mine did that too. Just pull real hard, it'll come out. Before you put it back in, put a little trans fluid on the O rings on the end then it wont stick anymore.

I changed my trans fluid for the first time on this car this weekend. My usual trick is to suction out the old fluid with a piece of clear tubing so I don't get soaked when I drop the pan. Since this is the first time with this car, I bought what I thought would be the biggest hose that would fit. 7/16" I think it is.

Observation 1) I only got it down the tube about a foot or so. I had to use the old hose that I had already laying around. 1/4" o.d.

Theory 1) There may be an obstruction in the pipe that is catching something or has been dislodged. I've never had one apart, so I don't know for sure.

Observation 2) The bottom of the dipstick is shielded in a little pocket by a small bolt-on shield. The end of my dipstick has a small closed curl.

Theory 2) If the curl were opened up or bent it may catch on either the shield (if it were jammed in too far) or the botton of the dipstick tube.

You might want to yank on it real hard and see what happens. Or, you may want to drop your trans pan and see if it's hanging up on something.

Either way, of course, you may be out of commission until you get it fixed.
