Default problems with my horns.

ok so apparently there are 2 horns on the fbody incase you are trying to honk at a tone deaf person, theres 2 different horns at two different tones.

well both of mine are fucked.

would anyone be able to tell me how to locate the horns in my engine bay? i dont really know what to look for. since they dont work i cant really just press the horn to find them.

i was also wondering what typically goes wrong with a horn? is it something rebuildable? or do you have to replace it? the dealership told me its going to cost me like 80 dollars to fix. That seems like alot, but i got a ticket for a expired inspection and i need to get it done soon so i can get the ticket dismissed.

any and all information is greatly appreciated, thanks everyone.

Joe

Jack the car up and get under the car and look up on the passenger side of the engine compartment. They are low to the ground and will fill up with water very easy if you drive through a puddle. I removed mine and emptied the water out and they started working again. You can buy replacements from Autozone for cheap. Do yourself a favor and mount them higher up and angled so they can't fill up with water. Stupid GM engineers. They look something like this:

NP. It's a common problem on these cars if driven in the rain.

It's an extremely easy, EASY fix. Take off the front air dam and the "splash guard" on the passenger side underneath, and the horns will be right there.

However, don't buy the one from AutoZone: their's is a "universal" type where you'll have to cut/splice/jimmy up the wires to the horn. I went to Advance Auto and they had the EXACT same horns that are in our cars: the ones with the "plug in" adapter which will make things sooooo much easier. Just unbolt and unplug the old one, and plug in and bolt up the new one and bingo. They're only about $10 brand new.

Whichever horns you buy, spend some extra time to mount them higher and angled differently so you don't have the same problem again after the first water puddle you hit.

Just point the horns down so they can't fill with water.
