anyone running their LS1 without a muffler?

anyone running their LS1 without a muffler? are you running your ls1 without a muffler, just straight pipes off the cats? or do you run off the y-pipe and catless?
if so how do you like the sound and have you noticed a performance difference good or bad?

A lot of people have just welded a cutout in the I-pipe, standard procedure. Do a search. It will sound a lot like the loudmouth: loud and healthy but not the greatest quality, though you can get away with it if you have stock manifolds/cats.
Without cats you will want some kind of real muffler, especially with a Y-pipe setup or it will sound like
A good flowing cat-back will make just as much power as a cutout, even if you are lightly to moderately modded. (eg hooker)

I have my longtubes with a ory and loudmouth and have no complaints. It is no louder at idle or daily driving than it was with the stock manifolds and loudmouth. It is a bit deeper, but once you get on it, it sounds like a stock car. It is all opinion, best bet is to hear someone local.

My opinion would be to never run the setup he has due to rasp. Some like it, and it does scream >4k. That's where the "to each his own" comes into play. Listening yourself is the best bet, or if not going with something that 99% of people have no serious complaints with. But even then, you never know....
When I bought my 99, I bought a 3in. intermediate pipe for a LT1 dirt cheap from a muffler shop and then just made my own Y after the axle and ran duals out like factory. Sounded better then stock, but wasn't the greatest tone either. Really RASPY. Car had stock manifolds, cats and Y-pipe.
