Default Cold Air Intake.

Alright, I have a LS1 Motorsports air lid, and I have heard alot of positive things about doing ram air that comes in from in front of the radiator, FTRA, SLP, Votech, Whisper, ect, i was wondering what you guys would recommend, what brand, what have been your experiences with them, and what kind of power gains are we actually talking here? also, im afraid of running the intake so low to the ground, i dont want to suck a lot of water into my motor and hydrolock it. any info would help, thanks, also wheres the best place to buy. thanks. it's for a 98 t/a with the ws-6 hood.

I think you mean what kind of lid we recommend. I have used the slp, wisper. as far as fitment goes you have to play around with them to get them just right. no dyno #'s but i could feel a difference. one of the best mods for the money if ya ask me.

no, i mean what kind of CAI, i already have the lid, i just need, or want the aluminum piece that goes from the underside of the air filter, down in front of the radiator, and scoops the air in from under the car.

i went with the unpopular choice SLP cai.

i got a good price on it and id rather not block my radiator like other kits do.ive read a few stories about cars sucking up water but its unlikely to happen.a blockoff plate is available.at least with FTRA kit.

I found the SLP CAI raised my IAT readings a lot
relative to the stock (SS) hood alone. Especially
if you let it sit with the fans not running and the
car not moving the radiator will heat that metal
right up, and the CAI snorkels from that space
which can be pretty toasty without good airflow.

I see enough armadillo meat on the road that I'd
never drive around with a super sucker attached.

I cobbled my own "free path" cold air using the cut
stub of the CAI, plastic and "pop" rivets that takes air
from -above- the radiator divider panel, from a space
that is fed by the two "nostrils" in the front panel
(relieved the styrofoam with a steak-knife and painted
the holes black so they are invisible).

That's the one good thing about the SLP piece; it will
outlast anything but an oak tree.

My IATs are good and I have two holes in the lower box
rather than one, zero radiator shrouding and no splash
exposure. Keep meaning to take the pics and make a
howto, maybe when I go swap radiators.

SLP here as well, one of my first mods, back then I could say I thought I felt the seat of the pants feel from it, but now that I am wiser I say it is not likely, however the piece was of great construction and install was easy, no regrets unlike some of my other mods, namely BMR adj torq arm(junk)

so, I should probably go with SLP on the CAI, i dont want to block off my radiator though, that's the only thing, i dont want the car sitting really hot all the time, do you guys think that it's worth it, and are there any better ones out there than the SLP setup? or maybe should I do something else with the money than the CAI. thanks for the help guys.
