Default Another true dual question

I'm gonna be putting true duals on this week and I'm wondering where the best place is to put the mufflers, before or after the axle. I know most people put them right before the axle, but since i'm going all the way out the back I thought putting them before the tips will free up some ground clearance. My question is has anyone done this and what kind of difference will this make to the sound? Will it sound better or worse? What are the pros and cons?

Heh...you are going to **** off jrp with these kinds of questions. The problem is there isn't much room to put mufflers before or after the axle, but there are work arounds. Hit the Search button and type dual exhaust and you won't be bored for the next week and a half. Tons of info and pics on this subject.

Yeah, i did a search but couldn't find much on how big a difference the location would make on the sound.

Probably not much of a difference in sound since you are only taking about a few feet apart. What type of mufflers are you looking at installing?

I'll have 12" bullets on for the time being since I already have them. But I'll change them out later on to something a little quieter. Not sure which ones yet.

Have you gone to www.ls1sounds.com and listened to the different mufflers and exhaust systems? Bullets will be loud regardless where they are located. The floor pans on these cars don't leave much room for normal size mufflers. But there have been some individuals here that have come up with some bright ideas on how to fit all sorts of exhaust systems under an F-Body. Just depends on how much money and time you can spend. If you can do the work yourself and have access to a welder, all the better.

I've listened to nearly every exhaust on LS1Sounds. Hard decision. I may end up using some sweet thunders.
I'll be doing all the work myself and will be going under the axle. I was just wondering if the location had any effect on sound. If not I'll probably just put them in the back.
