Default What to do for intake?

I am looking into buying an intake very soon but am unsure which one. Will the FAST 90mm intake be worth the extra money over the LS6 intake? Also i plan on getting a TB too at the same time. Now if i got the 90mm intake, would i have to also get the 90mm TB? I am debating saving more for the FAST 90/90 combo or jsut getting LS6 intake and buy a TB or port my stocker? Any suggestions? Thanks

Unless you have large mod plans get a ported stock throttle body and LS6 intake. I'd question whether or not the GMAF should be on the car as well.

If you have plans to go with some big power in the future like H/C then yes go with the FAST setup. But if you want to stay relitivley stock then definitley go with the LS6 intake.

Hey, well i bought the car with that on it. What do you think about it on there and why shouldnt it be? Well i doubt i will get to H/C and other large mods in the near future. I may but it will be way later down the road. FOr now my plans are finishing up bolt ons with headers/stall/intake and than maybe nitrous. So i should go LS6 than and get my TB ported? WHo on here is porting them and all i do is take mine off, send it to him, and put it back on? Anything else i need with it? WIll my car be driveable without a TB? or will i need to wait til i get it back on to drive again? Thanks. I am seeing pacesetters with y and cut out and ls6 intake with ported TB in the near future.

I got my ported throttle body from TSP, it was a little more but I didn't have to send mine in so there was no down time and now I have my old TB sitting around. Do some searches on the maf, most people have nothing but problems with them, especially in an A4 b/c they can screw with line pressure. I'd put the stock maf back on, if you have one.....

Just get a ported TB/LS6 intake/stock maf.

Well i dont have the stock MAF. So MAF is a mod that hurts your performance? Why would they make one than? Weird, i have heard that i should swithc back to stock by many. OR is MAF a good mod when your all modded or sjut always useless? Should i sell mine to help pay for other stuff? Thanks, who ports TB's or would i be better off getting a ported one and which one? Thanks Any idea what RWHP ill be at with my current mods + LS6 intake and ported TB and than after pacesetter lt,ory and cutout? Thanks

I think camminbeast is one of the guys doing throttle bodies right now...do some searches and see.

The MAF just isn't good. I dont know exactly why, but I've read that one thing it does is make your mixture a little lean by not reading/showing the full amount of air. I've also read that it reduces line pressure because it reads less, and the line pressure tables in the PCM are kinda FUBAR to begin with. Like I said, do some searches and you will see it's best to just avoid them if possible.

No real idea on the power, anything we can come up with would only be a guess. If you want to know, do it and put it on a dyno. You WILL gain a decent amount though, especially if you get it tuned. Tuning is recommended with bolt-ons if you aren't getting a cam soon.

Hey, well ill check out that MAF. Now well a cam would be nice also. Think it would be an ideal time to get a small cam after i get my headers/intake? If so should i do all 3 at once or what? Thanks.

A cam is a great step to take after headers, intake and converter have all been adressed.

So I have a 2001 WS6 is there any reason for me to get a fast intake or is mine ok? I read that the 01 and 02 have the LS6 intake.

Thead hijacker. SEARCH. Listen to the advice he is being given. It depends how far you plan to mod. I'm willing to bet you are perfectly fine as is.

Ok thanks for all your help. Ill search for the MAF questions, but right now i am about 90% set at getting my TB ported, get the LS6 intake (do i need to get anything else with this or does it come with all needed) and do i need the ERG one?. Than pacesetter LTs with TSP Y and QTP elec cut out. Than a Fuddle 3800 2.5 STR stall with trans go kit and cooler. Ill more than likely do the LTs and intake at same time than the stall and shift kit at the same time than start looking into cams. Thanks a bunch blkZ28spt. Oh also, would you recommend def buying all this new or is used fine? Like is there really much that could be wrong with the stuff buying lightly used or are these mods stuff to def buy new? Thanks

There are things I would buy used, and things I wouldn't. Just depends on the nature of hte product and who you are buying from.

You can get an LS6 intake from SLP that doesn't require anything to put it on. There is a thread asking that that just went up in this forum this morning, check it out.

You dont need or want EGR on the intake. All anyone ever does is plug the whole with a simple 1 3/8" rubber freeze plug after removing EGR altogether.

yea... everyone is heading you the same direction. good good... haha. yea definately do the ls-6 intake. if you do the fast 90/90 you will lose a lot of low end torque, and even peak torque vs. the ls-6. i'd say stick with that even if you did h/c. (unless you went with a really huge cam or a bigger motor). you said you were thinking about going to speed inc. for parts/install... i would suggest you do. they are great. they have taken very good care of me as far as prices, and customer service. they are also great at tuning.
