since there werent any serious replies to my question earlier, i'll ask it again...

since my car is an 02 SS with the LS6 intake, do I need one of these catch cans or did gm fix that problem with the new LS6?

also, if i do need one, i can just go buy that $12 thing from home depot, hook up the 2 hoses to it, and thats it? nothing more complicated?

I can't recall off the top of my head if you need it but yes the 12$ thing will do the trick.

thanks, i've been looking online for air compressor filters and found the cheaper ones had these specifications....

• 21 SCFM flow capacity @ 90 PSI
• 150 PSI Maximum Pressure

for a few dollars more they have ones that say

• 57 SCFM flow capacity @ 90 PSI
• 250 PSI Maximum Pressure

i have no idea what "scfm flow capacity" is but my question is would the more expensive ones do a better job of filtering out the oil than the cheaper ones? also, how pressurized is the air that will be flowing in to it? since these are pretty powerful engines would the air flow ever exceed the 150 psi rating of the cheaper can?

Anyone know the part # on that one? I already have a LS6 Intake and PCV system, but i figured i might try a cheap catch can, i sure as hell aint spending $160 on that AMW kit.

No need to get up tight over one person's off-the-wall comment. Besides, you were asking a question in someone else's thread which is why you probably didn't get the answer you were looking for. That's called thread hijacking. Start your own thread or do a search if you have a question.

But to answer your questions anyway... Even with the LS6 intake it couldn't hurt to try the cheap oil separator/catchcan mod. Just stick with the cheap one. No need for the more expensive, higher flow one. I don't have the part number for the Husky one, but the part number of the Campbell-Hausfeld one that I'm using is MP513810. I think the Husky one looks nicer...unfortunately, they didn't have any in stock when I was looking for one. The SCFM flow capacity is so you can match the proper filter to your air compressor setup. When you buy air tools they have a SCFM rating...e.g. a die grinder might require 3.5 SCFM @ 90 psi. You would want to hook the die grinder up to an air compressor that would provide at least 3.5 SCFM @ 90 psi in order for the die grinder to work at it's peak efficiency. Long story short, I don't think you'll be running those kind of flow rates through the hoses that connect to this type of "catchcan" setup that utilizes the water/oil separator.

thanks waveoff....one last question though. for the catch cans that come in 1/4 hole sizes, I'll need to get converters for it to fit it to the 3/8 hoses? if that's the case, it might be easier to get the slightly more expensive one because it already has 3/8 holes in it.

It probably has 1/4" NPT female holes in it. In that case, you would need to pick up some 1/4"NPT to 3/8" barb fittings, which can be found at most hardware stores. I almost switched to one of these, but went with a breather instead.

I left mine on too. Without it, you'd probably end up with just an oil slick inside the collection jar.
