Default Valve covers???

I am about to order some new valve covers and was wondering if I should get them with or without the coil pack mounting bosses? Which way are all of you guys getting them? I like the looks of the packs being under the cowl, but I don't know if I like enough to pay 200.00 to move them under the cowl(price came from Thunder). So just wanted to see what the majority of you are doing. Thanks

you answered your own question really. most guys arent going with the covers w/o coil pack provisions because of the added cost of coil pack relocation.

when i did the added 241 heads i bought oem covers and brackets and gutted the covers to clear my jesels. im upgrading to adj. jesels so valve spacers are required and im going to go with the coil pack reloctation.

I went with billet covers without coil bosses and relocated the coils with the Thunder Kit...you could fabricate your own relocation kit with some parts from Home Depot/Lowes and save some cash...the wires are the biggest expense. The Thunder Racing kit is very nice and worth the cash, IMO...

If u ever plan on FRC then valve covers are a waste of money, unless u need them for clearance.

Well, the reason for the new covers is that I am installing a 408 with LS6 heads which are centerbolt versus my LS1 heads that are perimiter bolt covers...on top of that I am getting a set of shaft mount rockers, so I will need the clearance. What is FRC?

FRC = Fuel Rail Covers...these are the plastic pieces that cover up the fuel rails, valve covers, etc...they're standard on 'Vettes and GTOs...they can be modified to fit on F-bodies...

FYI - 97-98 LS1's had perimieter bolt valve covers. Everything else is center bolt.

Who needs fuel rail covers when you can have beautiful valve covers under the hood.

Well if u go to car shows they come in very handy in adding appearance points & custom points to your scores & personally i think they clean up the looks better than aftermarket valve covers. Old chevy 350 motors look awsome with aftermarket valve covers, but these r a whole different beast.

I won't ever get any FRC...I don't really do the car show thing. My main objective is the track times.

Well u never know what people r planning for in the future of their cars. Some just race, some just cruise & show, while others (like me) race, cruise, & show. Hope u get exactly what you are looking for.

Thanks for the replies. You are right. One day I may decide to start going to shows, but it will not be likely. I did the whole show thing for a while with 2 of my trucks. There really aren't too many shows around my area anyway. Thanks again
