Hooker Header Install Problems

Hooker Header Install Problems hey guys
this thread isn't to put down hooker, but i'm a newbie
i cannot get these damned headers CLOSE to going on
i am hitting the drivers side one, on this little piece right above the oil filter, its held on with 2 bolts. i didn't undo it b/c i didn't know if it'd spill oil everywhere.
i don't think i'm hittin on the K member
passenger side, i can't even get it started. i don't think i have the car high enough, but my jack doesn't go any higher. how high did you guys have your car, and where did you measure from.
i'm so angry, i don't know what to do with these things
anybody in the northern ohio area who has put on LT's, whose willing to help a fellow member out?

another thing
i was going to reuse the stock gaskets like everyone says, but the gaskets that came with mine are steel in the middle with a pretty thick materal on both sides of it. they aren't the crappy paper ones.
and they are thicker than the stockers so, i'm thinking about using those.....any big problems? i mean they aren't the cheapos
for ~$800 headers they better have not given me the paper ones lol

Me personally, I would not chance it with the gaskets. But those do sound different from the crappy ones that I recieved, so try it. If they leak etc... just swap them for some stock ones. I had my jack damn near maxed out, along with some rhino ramps under the back wheels it was more than enough for me. Sorry that I cant help you out anymore. Good luck with the swap!

yeah i talked to a buddy and he gave me some pointers with everything else
i still dunno about the gaskets. these seem pretty beefy.
if they do blow out, shouldn't be that hard to change right? i mean i just unbolt and rebolt?

Yeah, changing the gaskets isnt too bad if you have skinny enough arms. Having the back up (either on stands or on ramps) helps a lot. I hope you're not working under your car with just a maxed out jack holding it up. I bought a set of 6-ton jack stands to do mine, the 3-ton jobs were not tall enough. Also, undoing the trans crossmember and using the jack to angle the engine/trans up and down helps a lot too.

Yeah remove the oil diverter man, that's the thing with the two bolts that your talking about. Don't worry...hardly no oil will come out. You might have to put a block on top of the jack to get the extra height to get the pass side header in. If after you remove the oil diverter, the driver side header still doesn't fit, then you'll have to remove the steering linkage. Good luck!

well the headers are in,
they went pretty easily after moving the trans around
Until...........I broke a freaking head of my Stage 8 header bolt!! its the center ones, the 3rd one in from the nose. I got so pissed i left. I didn't even tighten the rest down.
the thing wasn't even all the way in, it was cross threaded i think. something was messed up...long story, but yeah its broken
i guess i'm just going to leave it alone, hopefully it wont leak
if it does, then i'll deal with it this winter lol

The gaskets that come with the headers are fine so long as you get the bolts tight. But that is the case with any gasket. Mine have been on for a year with no issues. I would recommend getting the bolt fixed though.

i dunno how i would fix that bolt
other than take off the header, (ugh) and see if i can use plyers to work it out, then i'd have to someone get a tap lined up straight enough and run a bigger bolt
