Default weld or not to weld

that is the question

so heres my situation

new hooker lt's, awesome
new hooker y pipe, awesome
still have my borla exhaust, awesome

noooowww heres where my problems begin

the piece of my borla that is supposed to connect to the ypipe fits so loose that the band clamp doesn't do anything, i can pull it right off. the next section that goes under the back seat, and starts to go over the rear axle, i replaced.

i bought an electric cut out, so i had a local shop refab that piece, so i wouldn't have to cut up my borla SS piece. I welded my own cutout on.

So the new piece that the shop made is not SS but aluminized steel, pretty thick.

so the piece that connects to my ypipe and now to the new cutout piece is very sloppy b/c the shop flared the pipe too much. crap, and theres no way a band clamp will take up that slack.

and i haven't even checked the piece that goes on the other end of my cutout tubing

sooo i hope that wasn't too confusing. so the basics are, i made a new piece to save my borla incase i go back to stock. but now everything fits kinda sloppy. should I have this stuff welded together? I'm afraid i might regret doing it.

can it be welded while on the car? my friend is a welder, or should i just mark everything and then have it welded and put it on the car?

so much for trying to be perfect lol

i could use some opinions since i plan on doing this by the weekend

thanks!

Can you get the end of the Y pipe flared to tighten up the cutout connection?

i'd have to take it to a shop, and i'm not sure if i have time for that

but that still doesn't fix my other problems

I wouldn't weld the cat back to the Y pipe, I would try to find a way to clamp it. You'll kick your self later if you do. When I did my exhaust I pulled the rear out to paint and put in LCA's and panhard, I mocked up the CB and tacked all the pipes removed and welded it on the ground. So its basicly like stock. I have three clamps, headers to Y, Y to I, nice and clean with no clamps. If it were me I would weld every thing in the CB system.

alright, so I think I can get away w/o welding the cat back to the Y

but the next 2-3 pieces on the catback I might have to weld

would that be a problem?

I dont see it being a problem, even when I did my engine swap I disconected the CB From the Y and slid it back letting it hang from the axle, after that it never got in my way again. weld it.

No, I welded mine. But if you ever take the C/B off you will have to cut it were you welded it.
