Y pipe
I was going to replace the factory Y pipe with an SLP replacement. I was told by a mechanic at a local Chevy dealer to not waste the money unless I was going to do headers at the same time. The Y pipe he said would not get me anything. Doesn't sound right. That stock pipe has got to be very restricting. Just looking for opinions. Is it worth it or not? What manufacturer would you use? I will not be doing headers anytime soon.
yea i don't see it being necessary unless your going to eliminate your cats? plus if you do decide to go with some headers your gonna have to buy a new y pipe... just go with some cut outs, prolly cost ya the same amount to buy em AND have em installed as would just the y pipe.
I have one for sale right now if you are interested in it, I see your from Pittsburgh so you could check it out first. I was quite happy with mine paired up with edelbrock short headers. It might not be much gain on stock manifolds but paired with shortys I think it was an improvement over stock.
I went the shorty route and slp y-pipe because I was planning on staying emissions legal. Once I realized I wont be putting more than 5000 miles on a year I dumped it and went LTs and ORY.

It looks restrictive, but really isn't much of a restriction. Just because it has the pancake look doesn't mean it is restrictive. I wondered about this too though, when I fiirst saw the factory Y.
