QTP Lt's/Catted Y-pipe question

Wow those are tucked up there nice and high. So with the non-modified QTP catted y-pipe it was what 1-1.5" lower? Thanks for the pictures.

it was actually a little more than 1.75 to start out and only got to about 1.5 lower than that at best......give or take a fraction of an inch....

This is why I want to go with the dynatech supermaxx system. I have to have cats (sound quality reasons). The whole system is stainless. It might not flow as well as others because of the 2 1/2" y-pipe but it uses the power cats which are really small. I'm lowered so I need my ground clearance.

gawddamn that **** is low.......i don't know how you drive that around.....i couldn't stand mine that low, das why i had to get her fixed......

damn kevin...that **** looks damn good...the muffler shoppe is badass and that shows what quality work they do there...especially as picky as you are about your damn car. cant wait to get another ride in it to hear the difference it made on interior noise. hope my setup looks near as good as that

I initially had ground clearance issues with my catted y as well. After some re-adjusting I now have 3 3/4" clearance. I am lowered 1".

From my research stock ground clearance is 5 1/4", so I lost 1/2", not too bad.

I do not scrape on anything except very large speed bumps, and I mean very large!!

Here is a picture of mine.



In retrospect I might have gone with a smaller diameter y-pipe. I don't know who needs a 3"??

I did slightly oval my left pipe and I have a hanger welded in to hold the pipe closer to the body than otherwise possible.

yeah i bought them from them directly they are part #70300.....i had to tell them they were going to be used on an F-body and that i needed the 4" round cats......if you look on there website they are the 7000 series....that is actually a picture of them on random tech's main page down towards the bottom...........

That looks awesome. I was thinking about going with QTP HVMC but could not find a catted-y that would have good clearance if I lower it.

If I got QTP HVMC, 4" Flowmaster merge collector, and the 2 random tech cats, how much would I be able to lower it?

Also, would it be worth getting cut-outs with that set-up, or would the gains be minimal?

as far as lowering goes......i dunno, but i think cut outs would be useless, the exhaust is going to be loud as hell anyway and i really think the gains would be minimal.....you might see a slight increase in rwhp with cutouts, but you would most likely lose rwtq and for those reasons i could not justify the cost of two cut outs because that would be the only way to do it......two in the y-pipe because the flowmaster merge extends so far back there is not really room for a cutout in your i-pipe....then you've really lost any ground clearance you may have gained putting the cutouts in the y.....Just my .02

I was talking about this with a friend today and he pretty much said the same thing. That the influence of cut-outs with a set-up like that would be minimal and not worth it.

Do they make a 3" flowmaster merge y pipe instead of the 4"? Thanks a lot for the info, it has helped me out a lot.

yes i believe they make a 3" in 3" out flowmaster merge but i don't know how effective it is as far as flow goes or reduction of rasp.....most everyone i have seen has the 4" FWIW.
