Default Pacesetters installed, ORY is a no-go. Options/opinions?

Well I installed my headers today. After taking 6, count 'em, 6 hours to get my old ORY and the manifolds off the car, it only took 30 minutes getting both headers bolted to the heads. to Pacesetter. There absolutely couldn't be a better fitting header.

Attempted to install the Y-pipe and ran into a problem. The end that's supposed to go into my catback is the same size as my catback pipe, and thus, doesn't slip-fit. So after being under and above my car for 12 hours, I just came home and left the car at my uncle's for a good night's rest and to post here to get some opinions on my options(I can only think of one, so if there are more options, lemme know haha)

My uncle has every tool in the book and everything I could ever need to use. He suggested notching and heating up the end of my Y connection and sliding it INSIDE my catback I pipe.

As far as the TSP ORY goes, it SEEMS like everything will fit. Emphasis on the word "seems" as I haven't gotten it together on the car yet haha. What suggestions/tips do you guys have for installing it? Should I put it all together and then slide the whole thing on the catback and then on the collectors of the headers or what?

I'm really tempted to say, "**** it" and just drive open headers to an exhaust shop but I'm scared I'll **** something up(O2 sensor if I left it plugged up, valve, etc.)

Ur not gonna **** something up driving open headers, iv done it for 3 days locally and havnt messed anything up and it runs fine, just really loud.

If you did it for long distances for awhile im sure something would go wrong. Bring it to the shop and let them do it if ur not confident.

Update:

So I go over to my uncle's house this morning and he's like, "You ready to work?" and I said, "Yup", and he goes, "Okay, slide under". I slide under and to my utter amazement I see my ORY already installed, clamped, and ready. I was speechless.

Let's just say the car sounds a tad bit...meaner.

I like the fact that it's not TOO loud at idle. Magnaflow rules.

Now I just gotta schedule a meeting with Creech to get it tuned.

My uncle and his friend said the ORY worked great and they didn't have a single problem getting it to fit. The only problem is, like always, it's banging on the floorboard when the motor torques.

check to make sure its not banging on that stock frame brace that goes over the exhaust, thats what was hitting on mine, so I put a few washers between it and the floor and now no more rattling or banging.

Don't feel bad about the 6 hours taking off the stock system. I took me just under that counting the breaks and making a few trips to my dads shop for the right tools. All I have to say is F*** the passenger side exhaust manifold. Thats what took the longest for me. That and it takes me about 45 minutes to get the car up on jackstands. I'll be putting the headers in tomorrow.

It took me about 10-12 hours to take my engine out of my 98z took the whole motor and tranny out from under the car. Only major problems i didnt like is taken off the 2 ground mounts on the driver side head and the dipstick is bolted to the pass side head which is a pain to get at. I'm gonna eliminate the A/C , AIR and EGR i dont use my AC much here in the north east doesnt get too bad up here. But should save like 100 pounds of weight taken those things off. Also i plan on getting Pacesetters headers w/ Y-pipe with highflow cats. found a 04 LS6 for my car. But can i bolt the headers up when i put the engine back in from underneath? My motor destroyed it self back in late march of this year. But i didnt have any problems taken my exhaust manifold bolts off my car i dont think u should have a problem i recommand getting a 1/4 inch rachet works pretty well and probably a small rachet wrench. I believe the bolts are 10mm.

Go to LS1Camaro.net. There's an article there explaining how to take everything out. It's real simple, man.
