Default Question regarding M.A.F. sensor

My car has had a power loss problem after it goes into closed loop mode while trying to go past 2700 RPM. Past 2700 it's ok but big loss of power at 2700 exactly. Last night the car just started falling on it's face at all rpm's managed to get it home. Checked Fuel press. etc... Tried unplugging the M.A.F. sensor and car runs fine now, and has more power than it did before. Before, when I had the loss of power at 2700 rpm the Maf readings were proportional to Rpm and did not drop so I didnt think it was that. Question 1.is How could the MAF not have a drop in Grams per second at 2700 rpm if this was the possible cause? 2. if it is not the problem what else do I bypass when unplugging it? 3.Could t be an EGR problem causing air to escape that was read by the MAF sensor? Also the car is a 2000 Trans Am. I have a Granatelli M.A.F. sensor on my other firebird (95 LT-1) 4. Any idea if I could try that one to see if that solves the problem without having to buy one or will it not work on my 2000 ?
Thanks
Ron H.

should have kept the stock MAF. Too many people have problems with aftermarket ones.

The M.A.F. was the stock one. I was just asking if the granatelli one I had for my 85 firebird would work in it's place.

When you pull the MAF, besides reporting a bunch of codes, the pcm switches to the low octane spark table. Could you be getting excessive knock? The MAF could be dirty. The sensor wires get dirty after a while. You can go to Radio Shack and get some NON-RESIDUE electrical contact cleaner. Make sure it is NON-RESIDUE or you will be spraying oil on the sensors and screw them up worse. Spray the stuff right on the wires and wait for it to air dry. The more you spray the colder the wires will get. Try not to spray so much that the wires freeze. It's worth a try the stuff is about $5 for a 6 oz. can.
