I just think it was either a damaged or faulty plug.
With the difficult plug changing process in these cars, I'm happy to have a plug that lasts a LONG time.

A couple of years ago I went on this site to discuss Bosch platinum plugs. Whoa! I learned never to do that again and NEVER make a negative comment about NGK's (them are fightin' words). Some guys are fiercely loyal about their NGK's. Good luck and hope your car runs well now.

I have no PERSONAL feelings about NGK, I've just had a couple of bad experiences with them.
Believe me, I'd rather have spent $20 than $100 for plugs, but as long as everyone else is happy with them, that is GREAT, just wish I could have been part of that group.

thats what I have been told so I've never messed with the gaps on them, so I don't know from personal experience and at the cost of iridium plugs don't want to. The tip of the inner electrode you'll notice has a sharp point and I could easily see how that could be damaged while gapping plugs.

Been running the TR55's for a long time and never had an issure with them..I ran NKG's in tha SS\C Hemi car that held the NHRA national class record 25 years ago too..good plugs in my book and @ $1.68 a piece they are a steal..I change them about every 10K-12K or so..I like to look at the plugs pretty often just see whats going on inside..

regular plugs are fine, there is no use in getting irridiums IMO unless you wanna just keep a plug in the car for a long time, but ill never do that, too much can happent that can make a plug perform poorly.
the copper plugs should be replaced about every 30k miles, i have run ngk tr55, tr6 and br7ef plugs in my car with no issues, tons better than any other plug out there. for 13 bucks a set changing them 30k miles, i can go almost 270k miles with FRESH plugs for teh price of irridium plugs. just not enough benefits to fork out that kinda money for me, either way you put it though, NGK makes a great plug no matter what material it is.

I run mine at .50 and love them. Every time I go to the parts store I have to argue with the people at the counter though. I ask for NGK TR55's and they tell me NGK doesn't offer plugs for camaro's. Oh well.

For every one thread that boldly claims how bad NGK's are, there's 100 or more praising 'em. Huh.......go figure.
NGK's have a very good track record for a discout plug (no pun intended...
). Only plug I'd spend good money on is an E3, otherwise it's the; what did he say? oh yah....sucky NGK's.

After reading all the responses/ history, I think the dealer you went to was looking to score some extra $$ from your pocketbook. I have TR55's and they run excellent on my car. That's with LT's, TR224 cam, etc. I had NGK iridium plugs on my 97 LT1 and they were good too. But, $4 a plug vs. $8 a plug.... well, do the math. My experience with dealerships is they're out to make $$. I personally think the dealer screwed up the install.
One point in the dealer's favor. Provided the car is naturally aspirated (ie no nitrous), iridium plugs will last longer, thus in a way better. Regular TR55's should be changed every 30K miles like any conventional plug, while the iridiums are good for 50K+. On an LT1 this is a factor to plug selection (ever changed plugs on a F'n LT1?......pure hell, I must say!) But for an LS1...this should not be a factor. An amateur with a computer (to access installuniversity.com or LS1howto.com), a ratchet, a spark plug socket, 2 extensions, and a dogbone can change all eight plugs in under 90 minutes!
