cat-back swap vs. muffler swap

Default cat-back swap vs. muffler swap

whats the diff...on my 93 Z28 i just swapped the stock muffler with a magnaflow but on my 99 im goin all out and getting the cat-back....my question is will i see more gains by doin the whole cat-back rather than just doin the muffler....if so WHY?

It will flow more if you swap the rest of the exhaust, because of the the larger diameter pipes. You will see a little gain, but not a lot.

Magnaflow claims about 5 extra rwhp on an LS1 with the catback vs. muffler. The easy answer is it's larger and flows more air. Less back pressure is a good thing. I've had the magnaflow muffler and the catback, and the catback sounds alot better also.
