It all depends how you drive it. If you drive as hard as you where before then it WILL use more fuel. However as you will see a gain in BHP you will not need to drive as hard to acheive the same performance so you may in fact see no loss or even a slight gain.
An easy way to visulise it.
When the VW Golf was launched it had a 4 speed 1.6 litre engine. VW upgraded this to a 1.8 and a 5 speed. Logic would suggest the larger engine would use more fuel. However becuase the 1.8 produced more power it got 5 gears meaning you didn't have to drive it as high in the rpms as often, the result was a significant leap in fuel economy.
