Default GAS Mileage - need more

Last weekend premium gas in Weschester NY was $3.05 a gallon. Now since the Katrina storm the same gas is $4.35 per gallon. It is sure to top $5.00 very soon.

I guess I should buy a gas station now since they are making a ton of money on the bad situation....

How do we get the most mileage from our gas guzzlers? This could last for many months!

Consequently, this blows....

Oh well, I could be stuck in New Orleans.... my friend just bought a condo there. He saw his street corner on the TV news ....it is under six feet of H20! Looters were carrying stuff off from the local neighbors - WOW!!!!

First and foremost, but a cheap 4cyl car that was designed for economical use.

If you must drive your F-bod, refer to this thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/new-ls1-owners-newbie-tech/374246-improving-fuel-economy-your-f-body.html

I dont know, the best advice I can give you is to stay off the gas as much as possible. I mean you bought a muscle car, just somethin that you have to deal with...I know I am. A cheap 4 banger is always a good idea as well.

very true.... my father owns 2 gas stations and right now he is paying .30 more than other stations because he is unbranded(he is an independent)and there is a shortage of oil so they send fuel to there branded people 1st . He and my uncle are both trying to sell there stations because there is no money in the biz anymore. but there are no buyers cuz everyone nows how shitty it has gotton over the past ten years. he told me he use to make over 150K a year and now he says he is bearly making 50K. so you tell me that the gas station owners are making all the money... If anyone is making it it's the old companys

DING DING DING.... we have a winner...

correct the only ones making a killin are the oil company's... even the branded ones really aren't making all that much... there are a couple of cities that jacked prices up to like $7 when all this happened.. I think it was atlanta... needless to say they are all being sued for price gouging.

as for being coming more fuel effiencent... i haven't checked the link above yet... but cleaning your fuel system and chaning filters (air and fuel) should help... but before you go spend 3k on a 4banger to get you buy consider this...

last week you weren't bitchin about $2.70 a gallon right??

consider the price leap was$.60 a gallon... and you have a 16.8 gallon tank...

so 2.7 * 16.8 = $45.36

now it's $3.30 *16.8 =$55.44

so a little over $10.. a tank gets you by for what a week... even if this lasted a year... that only $520 a year. how much for your 4banger?

prices will go back down and i'm sure after this little scare the US is goign to make some changes... if congress doesn't want too then i'm sure there will be someone who will step up and get **** done...

There is alot of oil in alaska just all the tree hugers want to leave it be....

on Sept 11th (my dad was a marathon at the time) the prices went up to $2 from the 1.60 or w/e they were at. That same night my dad got a load of fuel that cost him like 1.90 a gallon and the next day everyone else went back down to 1.60 again... He lost a lot of money... but the moral of the story is its not the owners its the suppliers

Exactly. Being an OF, I can remember well going through this in '73 and '79 ... people freaked out, gave their musclecars away and started driving econoboxes. The market settled out and now they're all driving V8 SUV's, and the same thing is going to happen all over again. People flip about paying $15 more for a tank of gas, and then go to a restaurant and drop $50 on dinner without thinking twice. Same principle with getting an econobox: compare your increased fuel costs with the cost of insuring, registering, paying taxes, maintaining, loan interest, etc. on another vehicle and guess what? It's COSTING you money. It's like people thinking they're saving money by going out and buying a Toyota Prius with a $400 a month payment, 1/3 of which is interest - which alone would easily cover the increase in fuel costs.

I really wish I had bought a 6 speed. 28mpg sounds really nice, compared to the crappy 22.5 I get on the highway.
