No you don't need anything... the install is straight forward and you only need a screwdriver... It will make a difference and a cutout will compound the effect. Those should be the 1st two mods anyone makes.

Get the bellow! I have SLP's smooth bellow and it fit the SLP lid, till the lid started rubbing my hood. Then I bought the Donaldson Blackwing, no rubbing the hood! Then had to cut the smooth bellows, now everything fits perfect. I hope!!!

to your original question is no you don't need a bellow. you might see 1rwhp or so. do a search on it most people do it for cosmetic reasons, as it looks really good, but if you think that its going to give you more power you would be better off spending money on something else.

When you think about it though ~$50 for 1 hp is a actually pretty good deal.

Powerdyne Supercharger (no intercooler/6 psi) $4,372.99 this does not include installation. Around 100 hp gain that is about 43 dollars per hp.

SLP Smooth bellows $56. No real installation cost (even a moron like me can do it with only breaking a few things....) with a cost ratio of $56 per hp. Now imagine if you get

1.5 hp $37 per 1hp
2 hp $28 per 1hp
2.5 hp $22.4 per 1hp
3 hp $18.6 per 1hp

or the complete bs 6 hp SLP advertises:

$9.3 per 1 hp

Vortech intercooler 8-9 psi supercharger 150 hp. Ratio of 41:1 hp, not to bad at alll, but that doesn't included tune etc. Still a damn good deal.

Better than ported heads, a cam, and then finding out you can't pass inspections.
