Default Spark Plug Install!!!

I own an 02 SS. Today I installed the tr 55's. I have 41K on the car so I kept the factory wires. My only mods are slp loudmouth and a lid. After the install everything seemed fine, but now under a load and at full throttle it misses. I get a flashing SES light. I gapped the plugs at .055.

Even though the wires look fine, could I have damaged them while removing them. They were difficult to get off and I had to pull very hard on the wire instead of the boot. Has anyone heard of something like this? Do I need to go ahead and order new wires? Any help would be appreciated.

99% of the time when you have a flashing SES, it's either a loose plug wire, or a very bad one. I would check that each wire is snapped in good on each coil and plug. My experience is another 90% of the time it's the #8.
Luck,

they are a bitch to get on especially number 8, but if the plugs are not fully on, your SES will start to flash.

I grab a hold of the heat shields with a small pair of needle nose pliers never even touching the wire.
then use dielectic grease in boot & anti sieze on plug threads.

Was the problem a loose wire or a bad one?

This weekend I checked and rechecked all of the wires and also felt each of the plugs for cracks or chips, didn't find anything wrong and the car actually ran worse. So I parked it and ordered some wires (MSD's 8.5's)this morning. I'll get them this week and get them installed this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

while your at it, it would be a good use of time too pull the plugs out and re-check them. it very possible that when installing them that u hit the end causing the gap to get thrown off.

just a thought. if the wires dont fix your problem..

If you still have your old plugs try putting them back in and see if the problems is gone ....or have someone pull the code so you know exactly want it is might have nothing to due with the plugs....

...last time I change plugs I took off the alumium plug insulator,,,, no issues yet!

I installed the wires this weekend, but it did the same thing. So I started pulling plugs thinking I had cracked one of them. I got all of them out and they all looked great. I couldn't find anything wrong with any of them. So I went back to the auto parts store and bought 8 more NGK's. I got those in and now, it runs great. The only thing I can think of is it was a bad plug.

Thanks for the help.

Generally if it's the plugs especially a cracked one an engine code will not show. I'm with the other guys that it was a loose spark plug wire. I had the same exact thing happen two weeks ago to me. I had advance auto run the code, found what cylinder it was and sure enough it was a loose wire. Three days ago after installing headers my car was misfiring and backfiring due to two cracked spark plugs and never got a code. I'm glad eveything worked out for you I just hate seeing guys spend money and not able to get it back.

For F-bodies, remove the starter from the bottom and plug #8 is easy.

No need to pull the starter...get under the car and it is a breeze to do number 8..My car has all the smog stuff off of it and it takes me 25 minutes to change all the plugs..You need a flex head ratchet, 1 inch extention, 3 inch extention, and a spark plug socket to take care of all of them.
