Default stock I pipe and bullet muffler?

hey guys my current exhaust setup consists of Pacesetter LT headers, Pacesetter ORY, and a stock catback+3" cutout right after the rear axel

anyways the car is way to quiet when the cutout is capped and it's way to raspy when it's open...I really don't want to waste money on an expensive catback b/c I won't gain any hp over the open cutout...

so I've decided to add a bullet muffler to my stock I pipe to try and reduce/eliminate the rasp...my question is what diameter is the stock I pipe? (so I know what size bullet muffler to get)...also what length should the bullet muffler be? 16 inch? 18 inch? is there a certain brand that's better than another or are they all pretty much the same?

thanks!

It's 2.75 inches meaning 3" muffler. This is a powerstick on my otherwise stock exhaust. http://s95410392.onlinehome.us/JBrd4.../RichZ_rev.mpg
Do I search here for a Powerstick if you like it.

if the diameter of the stock I pipe is 2 3/4" shouldn't the inlet/outlet of the bullet muffler be the same diameter?

I don't understand how you can put a 3" inlet/outlet bullet muffler on a 2 3/4" I pipe

Any respectable exhaust shop can make it work...

i did the same thing and welded with a 16 inch bullet and welded a the cutout at the end of the I pipe but left the stock exhaust the rest of the way back so it looks stock and sounds almost stock with the cut out closed , with their windows up next to me at the redlight they can't even hear my cam

mushroom281, so how does it sound?
did you notice a significant reduction in the rasp?

I assume you used the stock I pipe as well...so what size (inlet/outlet) bullet muffler did you use?

I took it to a local performance shop and they put my car up on the lift and the mechanic said he couldn't do it, he was saying something about how there was very minimal clearence between my I pipe and the floorboard....and then he went on to say that the 1/4" gap between the 2 3/4" I pipe and the 3" inlet/outlet bullet would be to much to try and fit

What you do is cut the spot out for the bullet. Then take the piece you cut out, cut it in 2 and expand it to match the bullet. Now you can either weld the 2 3/4 pipe end back to the I or have them expand it alittle more and it will slip over it also.

ele-blue95 and I put the Sweet Thunders on my duals today ( and GOD do they sound FRICKIN SWEET ), and he put one of my old 18" bullets on his car. Granted his car is an LT1, and it took some careful cutting and welding, but it fit just fine and it killed ALL the rasp, with the cut-out open or closed.

Just my $0.02
