Default BGRA alternative?

Does anyone have a write up/how to or pictures of a BGRA alternative? Something that doesn't cost ~250$ for a few pieces of plastic? I've heard of things you can put together that'll do the same thing, but I just have no info

Thanks!

Its worth it to just buy the kit. You will probley wind up spending more money in the long run if you go with something custom.

It was worth it for me. Again, not everyone wants to spend that kind of money. It was a nice kit and installed very easy. It definitely works because my LT fuel trims will change by +5.

C'mon...there's gotta be someone with a write up. I just need to seal the ram air hood to the air box. Nobody's tried that before w/o buying the expensive kit?

ive used the baffles in the hood to make a fairly good, but not perfect as of yet, seal to the air box. when i get time i would like to finish it up but school has been busy so it has kept me from finishing. i move a lot of air at WOT, my map values went up and now i am staying pretty steady at about 99-100 kpa where before i was about 96 (tahts what it was with the rain blocker in that i made

You got it. A few of our sponsors sell it. I know afterthoughtsauto does. I've heard that there's something you can buy for a few dollars that'll work just as well. It's just hard to justify that much money for a few plastic pieces. I'm sure it's a great product though.

What did you do to the core support? Did you have to drill holes in it, in order to make you custom plate fit? Are you sealing the front of your airbox? If so what are you using to seal it?

I cut the core support.
i used some weather stripping.
i gained 1 mph and 1 tenth in the quarter. but at the same tim of adding my ram air i re installed all my A/C and a 6 point mild steel bolt in cage. So i added about 120 lbs, the drag of having the a/c belt and still went quicker and faster.
Oh yeah these results were going from the fast toys ram air to my ram air.

No, it's not what I asked for. The BGRA is for people that have Ram Air hoods. What they were talking about was more like a cold air kit. I have a WS6, and would like to be able to build something similar to the BGRA w/o spending 250$ I didn't start the thread so it could turn into a discussion about cold air kits

So you just drilled out the rivits and used the pieces that came out to use as the seal between the hood and the air box? That's a pretty good idea and might get me started in the right direction.

ook somewhere in there i wasnt thinking about that one, i was thinking you wanted something, not necesarily using the hood. yeah i cut the baffles out and then trimed the one strait long piece to make it fit between the hood and the box and i used a rubber gasket to connect it to the hood. for the bolts i have it held in by, i made 3 that were long and took a piece of black sheet metal and made it where if it was raining i could put that in so i wouldnt get any rain in the filter. it seals up pretty well to the box right now. if i can get my camera to work out ill put up some pics but i havent gotten it to connect in a while. there is a small gap but its a lot more effective than just being wide open in there. in the future i want to make a piece that will fit just right as well and seal the front part of the ram air hood up to the rest so it wont get turbulant in there.

Yeah, that'd be really cool if you could post some pics of it! I was thinking sheet metal might be a good approach.

Ok, the advantage of the BG ram kit is it makes a nice smooth passageway for the air to move and looks really nice. But if your goal is only to seal the hood opening to the airbox, a few years ago, people use to just buy weather stripping and seal it to the hood after de-baffling the passage way. Doesn't look as nice but I'm sure it did some good. ND4SPD use to sell to his friends a cheap alternative, you might try pm'ing him if he still does it.

Doing a forum search found a wealth of info (only 3 pages turned up using Ws6 hood seal as the search terms which isn't too much to go through)
