Exclamation Problem with Power Steering after Cam/Intake/Headers/Oil pump etc.

Had the following installed at the same time: LSX90/90, Racetronix fuel pump, LS6 Ported Oil Pump, MS3 cam, Timing Chain, Valve springs, Kooks and Kooks Y, and a new serpentine. My Power Steering worked fine with absolutely no problems before the installation.

At first I thought it was just the tightness of the new belt but after 30 miles it felt a little worse. The fluid is more than halfway filled. The steering is REALLY stiff. When I turn the wheel in either direction it feels as if it stops on something and I have to force it to "click" past this sticking part in order to continue with the turn There is no restriction in the wheel well either.

A friend of mine told me that the Power Steering "knuckle" may have been installed backwards

I know absolutely nothing about the Power Steering. Can anyone elaborate on this problem?

I'm gonna go back to the shop tomorrow to get this fixed but I'd like to know where they messed up. My regular mechanic who knows his chit was booked up for the past 2 months so I had to go to the bench for my install. I paid a lot of money and the car was gone for 3 days just to get it back with BAD exhaust/floorboard/I-pipe/driveshaft banging and my power steering screwed up

Is it possible the headers are touching the steering shaft?

Didn't know anyone replied here

You are absolutely correct. The Kooks had TERRIBLE fitment!!!

Had to shave down the steering column shaft where it was meeting the headers

Also, the Y pipe, also Kooks, was a BAD factory design. The part on the driver's side where it goes "flat" a little to clear the under-carriage goes "flat" about 3" too early

Had to beat the he!! out of the undercarriage to get it to clear enough so as not to cause false knock.

I was surprised to see all these problems with a Header that had such a reputation for being a "no problem installation" with FANTASTIC clearance.

Thank you very much for replying

my steering knuckle also is very close to my header. When my buddy and I first put them on, it was right on. I pryed it enough so where it doesnt rub anymore, but it had the same symptoms you said (very hard to steer). Im not sure if its backwards or not (I think it only goes on 1 way) but I dont remember it being so close to the stock manifold.

BTW, this is on MAC headers...
