As far as the X being placed that far back in the system I cant see a scavenging affect at all. Just like with the header mounted evac systems, they rely on the strong exhaust pulses to pull a vacuum on the crank case.
If you have a restricive muffler like a flow master they dont work, you also have to have them mounted really close to the collectors or they wont work.
