Default Spark plug gap question...

After resetting my PCM, it STILL PINGS!!!

Could I have set the plug gap too wide??? They're at .060" right now.

I've been corrected for this before, but right now it has Bosch Platinums in it. There again, it didn't ping before the lid went on.

Nope. Every now and again when it's stupid cheaper, I'll drop to 92, but most of the time, it sips 93-octane.

if its REAL hot where u are, u could be gettin extremely high IAT. and that could be pulling off a lot of timing.. and causing knock.

Here's what all I've done so far:

TB bypass

Lid

Bosch Platinums gapped at .060"

EGR mod

I'm in NORTH Georgia(any further north is NC), in the hills, and it's been hitting 85 on a hot day lately. So I doubt a hot IAT would be the culprit. I'm flat-out STUMPED.

I have seen this before, look into a cooler heat range plug and it will likely fix the problem I would try the TR5 or maybe the TR6, I understand most people use these for power adders but it works real well and if you gap them to .050" they should not cause a problem, it allowed us to make like 30 more on a car that would ping on the stock tune with 100 octane before the fix!

Default right now it has Bosch Platinums in it

I read somewhere in here that platinum plugs retain heat causing the fuel mixture to predetonate.

I just wasn't thinking when I got these plugs. Guess I'm gonna pop'em out, gap'em at .050", and pop'em back in. If I get a high-end plug next time, I'll spring for those $20-each Iridiums.

Which is colder, the TR5 or TR6?

TR6 plugs are colder. Part number 4177. Cost $1.59 each at O'Reilly's. I have them in my car gapped .045".

It looks as tho you don't have any big mods (headers, catbak, tune). The NGK TR55's should be good enough. I run them gapped at .055. Never had a problem with them. People who run NOS or Forced Injection usually run the NGK TR6.
Like stated above, I have heard the same about the Bosch plugs.

Good stuff, y'all. Thanks for the help.

Gonna close the gap on what I got, and hopefully I'll have LTs to put on with my next plug change.

tr6 might be a little extreme for your setup.
tr55 should be great for your setup even with LT's.

i run tr55's @ .055
and they have been nothing less than perfect.
