Converter/O2s warranty question
Warranty/Converter/O2's question I am getting the code P0430 which has to do with Bank 2 of the converter and stuff. The guy suggested I buy an aftermarket high flow one. Question is, if it is the catalytic converter, GM covers this 8 yrs/80,000 miles correct? Does this include labor? Also, I was told to check the O2 sensors and switch them around to see if that is the cause and to tell if it is the converter or sensors. Thank you for the help. By the way, I only have GMMG exhaust, and I have reset the light a couple times now.

Yes, the cats are covered under the federal emissions warranty for 8/80 and includes labor - but if they do a diagnostic and find it's the 02, the diag/labor and 02 are not - that's why some swap the rear 02's first to be sure. I have two friends that had their driver's side cat replaced (P0420), only cost was the inconvenience of not having their car for a day.
i dont want to highjack the thread so please try to answer his second question first but...
i just went to autozone today and got the p0430 and the p0420 which is the same code he got but on both sides. since i cangt switch the o2 sensors what do u guys suggest i do?i got the print out of the diagnostics but since its from autozone that really wont say if it is the cats or the o2's will it? im at about 73k so if i could get cats replaced under warrenty that would be slick. does it matter what year ur car is or if ur the original owner? its an '01. thanks.
- slight miss-fire at idle and the car has recent tune up.
also a ticking noise when car started that quiets down a lil after driving, could be exaust leak, but i think its piston slap.

onoiocoko - SES just came on, got both codes at the same time? Any mods? Rare that both cats would go bad simultaneously. Did AZ reset'em and both codes come right back? Make sure they're screwed in tight and the connections are good. You don't need to be the original owner for the 8/80K warranty.
no mod's. got the car testsed like 2 weeks ago and i cant remeber if it was both sides then but it came up as well as a misfire. they havnt been out in a while neither. az reset them last time but i cant remeber if they did this time. i know the code is back already. any suggestions?

Well, you don't need to reset the PCM after the lid. Here's what I'd do since you don't have a scanner and not sure if it was both sides at the same time -reset the PCM by:
Turn key on, don't start car
Pull PCM BATT and PCM IGN fuses in eng compartment
Wait 5-10 min
Turn igniton off
Replace fuses
Idle will be grumpy - don't worry - if the SES comes back get any codes read as soon as you can. Only thing I can think of off the top of my head that would fry both cats at the same time would be leaded gas.

well both codes did come up at the same time. that was the second time i got the codes tested though. i dont know if i lost you above but the second test came up both codes meaning both sides. can i just disconnect the battery for 10-15 minutes to reset the pcm? im thinkin if i reset it the same codes are going to come on again. and ive been running 93 unleaded. thanks.
