Default bad O2 = bad MPG?

I've been throwing a P0137 code for a couple weeks now, which I believe is tied to the O2 sensors. Also, ever since I threw a code, I've been getting TERRIBLE gas mileage. Like, 170 miles to a tank (12mpg). Are these two symptoms related? Could it just be bad gas? I'm getting my gas from a BP, which is usually pretty good quality. Thanks for any kind of help...this is killing my wallet.

go get it cleared from autozone for free if they can or you may just have to take it back to the dealer to get it erased. some states have laws aginst erasing codes. there is another way by unpluggins some things but I don't know someone else might be able to help you out there. Your ses light will stay on till you get it cleared or after awhile your computer will eventually figure it out but who knows when that will be

I used to get those. I replaced my front sensors with 01 vette sensors. They get warmer faster than other sensors. The wires are pretty long and you don't need extensions. I also wrapped my header collectors with thermotec header wrap from summit racing equipment. I used bailing (I think that is what it is called)wire to secure the wrap.

No more problems.

there are 4 o2 sensors on the ls1, 2 are infront of the cats and 2 are after the cats, you need to check the ones in the front..

I wish I knew they caused poor gas mileage. I had been throwing the code ever since I bought the car from someone else who had it modded. He had Mac headers on it, and told me that he changed the O2's a couple of times and the code would keep on coming back. I looked it up here, and read that some cars with headers keep on throwing the code even with new sensors. So based on what he told me, and what I read from here, I assumed I had one of those cars. So I was running the car like this for the past 2 years. I changed the O2's recently with the rear Corvette Bosch ones, and I'm prety sure my mpg got better. I put about 500 miles on it waiting for the code to come back, but it has not.
