Default Underdrive Pulley?

What's the deal with these underdrive pulleys? Some need a new tensioner some do not... Certain F-body year that has this problem? I was reading in GM High Tech and they had this problem with their F-body LS1. I think it was an asp pulley...

well a lot of people have the asp pulley work well for them. Me included! The SLP has higher walls to retain belts better, but if you align the pulley right either should be a good choice. Haven't run into a problem with mine yet!

You don't have to get a new tensioner unless your stock one has lost too much force (ie bouncing around a lot)

I haven't had any problems with my asp either. I use gatorback belts and haven't thrown any belts (sees 6500rpm often) or had any charging issues.

We have found that it isn't the balancer pulley, it's the tensioner. We have had alot of complaints on the GM tensioner being to loose, and not keeping the belt tight at higher RPM's. We sell and use the Katech tensioner. These belt tensioners are a must for anyone doing any sort of performance driving with a Gen 3 powered car or truck. Without it, the belt can be thrown by the stock tensioner. This is not something you want to happen when you are going down the strip or racing around the road course.
*Not recommend for use on supercharged engines

PM, email, or call for further assistance!!

Well, Katech is a sponsor for our club, gonna have to talk to them about it! I'll probably end up getting a tensioner just in case, don't want to be at the track and throw the belt. Especially when the track is a hour away from my house!
