The only functional problem I can see (besides possible clearance issues) is that the steel it is made out of will not dissapate heat from the oil as well as the alloy stocker. It's benefits may outweigh this though.

Its made of aluminum.

This pan has been used quite a bit succesfully.

My friend put one on his LT1. Nice piece. He had to change his exhaust set up though cause his ASM headers wouldnt clear it. He got his for road racing. Im not sure its really necessary for 1/4 mile passes. Canton also makes an oil accumulator called the Acusump that is very cool too. You might want to take a look at it before you decide.

OOPS, my bad! I must've been confusing it with the Moroso pan (does that even exist for LS1s)?? Which longtubes (or stock setup) will/will not clear the Canton? Does it drop any lower than the stocker? (I hope not since many road race/open track cars are lowered and tend to use the curbing on road courses.)

my biggest reason for wanting it is because im guessing it must be a few pounds lighter?

It might also keep the nose of your crank in oil during hard launches/shifts (depending on the design of the baffles/oil pump pickup point). If it was designed with road racing in mind, it may not help this much though.
