poly mounts are time consuming to install, but worth every cent. Much better alternative to jury-rigging a band aid

I'm going with the bumper stop by Thunder Racing because I heard that the motor mounts are a difficult process.

the heater hose i got was the biggest size autozone had, and i used zip-ties and a hose clamp to hold it in place. basically just wrapped it all the way around the pipe and secured it to itsself. it wont melt, i'm sure heater hose has seen hotter, and the y isnt as hot as say the primary tubes. i had tried just jamming some in there but it fell out on the highway, so i decided to find a way to secure it.

To echo the above comment, the poly mount installation is a PITA, but its worth it. All you really need to do to see the benefits is the driver's side. My old custom Y-pipe with cats was so close to the floor pan that it almost touched (maybe 1/4" clearance) and it would bang all the time. The stock motor mounts just allow lots of movement, which is why that big *** flat spot is there on the stock Y.

When I had my duals built I didn't use cats and we incorporated a Dr Gas frame clearance pipe under the crossmember just behind the driver's side collector. This has made a ton of difference. I would recommend to those that are having a custom Y built to consider using one of the Dr Gas clearance tubes. If nothing else, swap in a poly mount on the driver's side.

I got the "bumper stop" made by mufflex and the rear O2 sensor of the Kooks ORY(kooks LT's) was right in the way.We ended up bending the L-bracket that bolts against the body 180* and that got it to work just fine and it fixed the banging.

bash the floor in, loosen the clamp- pry the pipe down- tighten clamp, wedge soft/springy material between pipe and floor

---or---

take the time to put poly motor mounts in. worth every penny, no adverse side effects (like the vibration you get from poly trans mounts). you'll be happy that you didnt bash your floor or rig your exhaust

Default less banging with a lowered car

Here's something strange: since I lowered my car last week, I can barely get my y-pipe to bang anymore upon hard acceleration. What's that about?

I RTV'd a piece of heater hose to the floor board, only to find out the I pipe was banging on the tunnel brace. Washered it out some more and banging went away....now gotta get that piece of hose out before my fillings vibrate out, LOL.

I did the exact same thing and it worked great, stopped every bit of that vibration and rattling

I just had my friend weld me up a bracket to where the original Y-pipe attached to next to the tranny and that stopped the banging on the driver side, best part it was free and took maybe 10 minutes.

Actually the banging isn't fixed , because I noticed it again when I went to the track last night .Back to the drawing board.I have a friend who has his own muffler shop so I think I'll head there next.I'm trying to avoid the motor mounts because I'll just go to the track for fun at times.
